Introduction to Criminology and Criminal Justice
The BMCC Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice prepares students to critically examine justice, equity, and the complex systems shaping our society. Criminal Justice is one of the College's largest and most dynamic academic programs, offering a strong academic foundation and the opportunity to explore real-world issues through coursework, events, and engagement with professionals in the field.
Program Overview
The Criminal Justice Program offers more than just classroom learning. Students build a strong foundation in the liberal arts while exploring real-world issues like policing, legal advocacy, corrections, and public policy. Through a joint degree partnership with John Jay College of Criminal Justice, students can seamlessly transfer to complete their bachelor's degree after earning their A.A. at BMCC.
The CUNY Justice Academy
By majoring in Criminal Justice at BMCC, students are automatically part of the CUNY Justice Academy (CJA) and receive dual admission into the corresponding B.A. program at John Jay College. When students successfully complete the first 60 credits and meet their community college requirements, they not only receive an associate degree, but they are also rewarded with the option of guaranteed admission to John Jay, where they will be on track to complete their bachelor's degree.
