Introduction to the New York City Teaching Fellows and Collaborative Programs

The New York City Teaching Fellows (NYCTF) and New York City Teaching Collaborative (NYCTC) are alternative teacher preparation programs designed to lead to New York State teacher certification. These programs are the result of a collaborative effort among the New York City Department of Education, the City University of New York (CUNY), and select private universities in New York City.

Program Structure

Following the completion of pre-service coursework offered by the partner university and the NYC Department of Education, participants in the program teach full-time in high-needs New York City public schools. Concurrently, they continue their studies at their university and undergo continuous in-school supervision and professional development.

Financial Support

Tuition costs for the program are subsidized by the New York City Department of Education, making it more accessible to aspiring teachers.

Program Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the two-year program, teachers earn a master's degree and become eligible for New York State initial teacher certification. This certification is a significant milestone in the teaching profession, marking the beginning of a teacher's career in New York State's educational system.
