Course Details and Modules
Foundation Carousel
The program consists of four 15-credit taught modules, each typically studied over eight weeks, allowing students to complete their qualification in just eight months. Students will take three modules from the full MSc program's Foundation Carousel and then, once completed, select a further fourth module from the MSc's Development Carousel.
Global Health Systems and Challenges (15 credits)
Introduction to the concepts of Global Health Systems and challenges faced by Global and National Actors involved in policy development to support the provision of national health services.
Global Health Governance and Policy (15 credits)
Explore the structures, actors, and conceptual approaches that shape global health governance. Analyze the roles of key organizations, partnerships, and paradigms in addressing global health challenges.
Environment, Climate and Health (15 credits)
Gain in-depth knowledge about the role that current food production systems, environmental degradation, and climate change play in the emergence and aggravation of infectious disease outbreaks and epidemics.
Development Carousel
(Students will choose one module from this Carousel once they have completed the Foundation Carousel)
Data Analysis for Population Health (15 credits)
Learn the fundamental statistical skills needed to identify patterns and trends in population health data.
Strengthening Health and Mental Health Service Delivery (15 credits)
Explore the current and emerging challenges facing service delivery in global health systems, including services for physical and mental health.
Social and Corporate Determinants of Health (15 credits)
Understand how health is socially determined by factors such as inequality, income, race, and class, alongside the commercial determinants of health.
Global Health Resources (15 credits)
Explore two key priorities of global health systems; managing human resources for health and distributions of financial resources within the health sector.
Health Diplomacy (15 credits)
Gain a comprehensive understanding of the role and impact of diplomacy in global health, highlighting the influence of key actors engaged in improving global public health outcomes.
Research Methods in Global Health (15 credits)
Explore the politics of global health research funding as a key indicator for the types of research conducted in Global Health.
Learning and Teaching
Students will be taught by expert academics from across four University of Leeds schools, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of this PGCert. The program is delivered 100% online via the award-winning virtual learning environment, Minerva, allowing students to study flexibly alongside their professional and personal commitments.
Assessment
Assessments provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have developed in the module. Each 8-week module consists of 6 weeks of teaching, followed by two weeks dedicated to assessments and a short break prior to the next module.

Entry Requirements
Standard Entry
To meet the standard entry requirements, students need a 2:2 or above in any degree with honors.
Professional Route
To qualify for the Professional entry route, students need to meet one of the following criteria:
- A minimum of a third-class degree with at least 3 years of relevant professional experience in health or public policy.
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in a decision-making role involving some level of data analysis and use of qualitative or quantitative evidence.
English Language Requirements
Proof of English Language Proficiency is essential to study at the University of Leeds. Students will need either:
- IELTS 6.5 overall, with no less than 6.0 in any component.
- A degree taught in English from a recognized institution, lasting at least two years at the undergraduate level or one year at the Master's level.
