Business Studies with Foundation Year BSc
Overview
This extended four-year course allows students to study for a degree in one of the following areas: accounting and finance, banking and finance, business management with marketing, business management and the human resource, economics, international business, international business and finance, international business and marketing, management, and marketing.
Course Structure
The first year of the course is primarily taught by expert academics from the Lifelong Learning Centre, but may also involve modules delivered by Leeds University Business School, depending on the chosen pathway. The second year of the course involves modules delivered by both the Lifelong Learning Centre and Leeds University Business School.
Course Details and Modules
The Business Studies with Foundation Year is a full-time, four-year course that allows students to follow one of nine pathways to study towards a full honours degree from Leeds University Business School. The pathways are:
- Accounting and finance pathway leading to the award of BSc Accounting and Finance
- Banking and finance pathway - leading to the award of BSc Banking and Finance
- Business management with marketing pathway - leading to the award of BA Business Management with Marketing
- Economics pathway - leading to the award of BSc Economics
- Human Resource pathway leading to the award of BA Business Management and the Human Resource
- International business pathway - leading to the award of BSc International Business
- International business and finance pathway - leading to the award of BSc International Business and Finance
- International business and marketing pathway - leading to the award of BSc International Business and Marketing
- Management pathway leading to the award of BA Business Management
- Marketing pathway leading to the award of BSc Marketing
Year 1 Compulsory Modules
The compulsory modules for Year 1 are:
- Introduction to Marketing (20 credits)
- Introduction to the Organisational Environment (20 credits)
- Introduction to Innovation and Enterprise (20 credits)
Year 2 Modules
There are no compulsory modules in Year 2. Students will choose from a range of optional modules depending on their chosen pathway.
Learning and Teaching
Students will learn through a mix of face-to-face workshops, seminars, and lectures, complemented by tutor support, group work, and a range of digital resources.
Assessment
Assessment methods reflect those found later in the degree to ensure students are well-prepared for continuing study. Methods include essays, business reports, journals, real-life case studies, presentations, creative portfolios, and timed assessments.
Entry Requirements
- A-level: CCC excluding critical thinking and general studies
- GCSE: English and maths grade C/4 or above, or equivalent
- Additional entry criteria:
- Permanent address in a neighbourhood with low progression to higher education
- Attended a school that achieved less than the national average of five A*-C / 9-4 passes at GCSE
- Grew up in public care
Alternative Qualifications
- Access to HE Diploma: 60 credits overall with 45 graded credits at Level 3, of which 45 must be at Merit or above
- BTEC: Merit, Merit, Merit in National Extended Diploma
- Cambridge Pre-U: P1, P2, P3
- International Baccalaureate: 24 overall (12 higher)

Fees
- UK: Ł5,760 for the foundation year
- Fees will increase in future years when progressing to the undergraduate degree
