Course Details and Modules
Course Structure
The curriculum for this pre-sessional course is developed in collaboration with the academic faculty and is informed by research in English language teaching. The course is divided into two parts: the first four weeks focus on improving academic English language ability for postgraduate study in the fields of science, engineering, technology, and mathematics, while the final six weeks focus on the skills needed to succeed as a postgraduate scientist at a UK university.
Learning and Teaching
Students will learn how to use language appropriate for their degree to express their thoughts and ideas effectively. They will be taught in classes and group seminars, working individually and with others. Independent study is an important element of this course, allowing students to practise their skills, deepen their knowledge, and prepare for their degree.
Assessment
A range of assessment methods will be used, including written assignments, speaking assignments, presentations, and research projects.
