Introduction to the Critical and Experimental Composition MMus

The Critical and Experimental Composition MMus is a postgraduate degree program offered by the University of Leeds, designed to help students develop their compositional creativity and technical fluency to an advanced level. The program is guided by expert staff and supports a broad range of critical and experimental approaches to acoustic and electroacoustic composition.

Program Overview

This course gives students opportunities to develop their compositional creativity and technical fluency to an advanced level under the guidance of expert staff. Our diverse composition staff are all experienced and active composers, enabling us to support a broad range of critical and experimental approaches to acoustic and electroacoustic composition, and to the intersections of these aesthetics.

We use a variety of assessment methods, each of which is chosen to best measure your achievement of a module's learning outcomes and associated skills, so you and we can understand and support your progress and development.

Entry Requirements

You'll need a bachelor degree with a 2:1 (hons) or equivalent qualification in Music or a related subject. A non-music related subject can be considered in instances where the applicant can demonstrate significant compositional experience demonstrated through private study, portfolio, or alternative professional practice at an advanced level.

English Language Requirements

IELTS 6.5 overall, with no less than 6.0 in any component.
