Program Overview
Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) (Industrial) BSc
The Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) (Industrial) BSc program at the University of Leeds is designed to equip students with the core technical and problem-solving skills to tackle current and emerging challenges in the field of artificial intelligence. This four-year full-time program includes an optional industrial placement year, providing students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in a real-world setting.
Course Overview
Artificial intelligence is one of the fastest developing areas of computer science, with applications in computer games, web search, biometric systems, and many other areas. The program covers the theoretical foundations of computer science, including algorithm design, problem-solving, and practical programming. Students will also develop vital workplace skills such as collaborative working and project management.
Course Structure
The program consists of four years of study, with the option to undertake an industrial placement year. In the first two years, students will learn about the core topics in computer science, including programming, software engineering, and computer hardware. They will also develop a good understanding of the theoretical foundations of computer science, including mathematical and computational concepts.
Years 1 and 2
- Programming: Students will acquire fundamental programming skills, including data structures, algorithms, and data modeling.
- Building our Digital World: Computer Systems and Architecture: This module introduces the foundations and intricacies of computer systems, covering hardware architecture, networking principles, and operating systems.
- Theoretical Foundations of Computer Science I: This module lays the foundation of mathematical and theoretical concepts in computer science.
Year 3
Students will have the opportunity to apply for a year in industry, which is an invaluable opportunity to transfer learning into a practical setting.
Year 4
- Professional Innovation and Enterprise: Students will gain a holistic understanding of professional conduct, legal considerations, and ethical practices in the tech industry.
- Individual Project: This individual project is the culmination of three years of computer science studies and provides the opportunity for students to demonstrate mastery of the subject.
- Artificial Intelligence: Students will build hands-on experience with the design, implementation, and evaluation of artificial intelligence systems.
- Data Science: Students will develop advanced skills in extracting meaningful insights from complex datasets using modern data science techniques.
- Optimisation: Students will explore the theoretical foundations and practical applications of optimisation, with a particular focus on combinatorial optimisation techniques.
Entry Requirements
- A-level: AAA including Mathematics.
- GCSE: English Language grade 4 (C) or higher.
- Alternative qualifications, such as Access to HE Diploma, BTEC, Cambridge Pre-U, International Baccalaureate, and Irish Leaving Certificate, are also accepted.
Fees
- UK: Ł9,790
- International: Ł32,750 (per year)
