Program Overview
Högskoleingenjörsprogram i miljöteknik, inriktning blĺgrön samhällsbyggnad
- 180 hp
Program Overview
The program is designed for students interested in shaping future sustainable societies by combining technology with natural processes. It provides the opportunity to become a key player in the transition to sustainable and climate-adapted infrastructure solutions.
Program Description
The program focuses on planning and designing facilities and infrastructure in the landscape, utilizing technical solutions to strengthen essential ecosystem and geosystem services. These services include erosion and flood protection, natural purification, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity.
Education and Duration
The education is a three-year program leading to a degree in environmental engineering with a "blĺgrön" (blue-green) focus, contributing to the transition to a sustainable and climate-adapted society. The program includes a deep understanding of natural science and technical subjects, such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and geotechnology.
Specializations
- Hydrology and Hydraulics: Understanding water movement and its impact on ecosystems and infrastructure.
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS): Modeling and analyzing hydrological processes to quantify and predict water-related phenomena.
Practical Application
The program has a strong practical foundation through project work in collaboration with external clients. These projects involve fieldwork, data collection, and modeling, providing an applied dimension to theoretical knowledge. Additionally, the program includes work-integrated learning (WIL), giving students insight into professional life and the opportunity to establish valuable contacts within the industry.
Career Opportunities
After graduation, students can pursue various career paths, including:
- Miljöingenjör (Environmental Engineer)
- Projektledare (Project Manager)
- Vatten- och avloppsingenjör (VA Engineer)
- Konsult inom hĺllbar infrastruktur (Sustainability Consultant)

Technical Base Year
For students lacking the required qualifications, a Technical Base Year is offered as a preparatory course. This year provides the opportunity to complement qualifications in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology, equivalent to upper secondary school courses. Upon completion of the Technical Base Year with a passing result, students are guaranteed a place in the Environmental Engineering Program with a focus on blue-green urban development.
Program Coordinator and Industry Demand
According to Salar Haghighatafshar, program coordinator, the new program is a VA education with a special focus on blue-green urban development. Ulf Thysell, strategist for climate adaptation and civil defense at Svenskt Vatten, emphasizes the significant demand for professionals in this field, stating that students who choose this education will have guaranteed employment, not just upon graduation but throughout their careers.
