Program Overview
Introduction to the Research School
The Research School for Pedagogy and Vocational Knowledge, PYRK, is part of the Forum for Pedagogy and Vocational Knowledge, L‰ros‰ten Syd. This forum is an interdisciplinary research and development environment that brings together researchers, teachers, students, and practitioners to explore and discuss issues related to vocational knowledge, vocational didactics, and vocational education.
Description of the Research School
The Research School focuses on the design of educational processes in relation to vocational knowledge, the content of vocational education, and its social, historical, and professional context. It involves a joint effort to develop and provide profiled doctoral courses in pedagogy and vocational knowledge, equivalent to 15 higher education credits at the doctoral level. The school is based on the same foundation for cooperation as other collaborations within L‰ros‰ten Syd, aiming to increase quality, improve resource utilization, and enhance contacts with the business community and society, both for students and universities/colleges and for the surrounding society.
Research Areas and Objectives
Through its interdisciplinary and practice-oriented approach, the Research School creates unique opportunities for developing the field of vocational didactics, characterized by interdisciplinary working methods in the borderland between theory and practice. The school has five doctoral students and offers joint doctoral courses, regular seminars and internships, and participation in scientific conferences. These are central components for doctoral students to work towards the goals of doctoral education, to develop into critical and independent researchers in the scientific community, to learn to communicate their research results, and to create national and international networks that help drive research on vocational education and vocational didactics forward.
Organization and Leadership
The Research School is led by a steering group with representatives from the three participating universities: Daniel Alvunger (LinnÈ University), Victoria Johansson (University of Kristianstad), and Peter Koudahl (Malmˆ University, convenor).
Current Status and Activities
The Research School is ongoing, with a focus on developing the field of vocational didactics and enhancing cooperation between the participating universities. It is part of a broader effort to strengthen and develop the knowledge base for vocational education and vocational teacher education, and to play a central role in establishing complete academic environments for education, lifelong learning, and competence supply.
