Introduction to the Opticianry Programme

The Opticianry Programme is an associate degree programme designed to educate prospective health technologists who can choose and dispense optical devices according to specifications and prescriptions written by ophthalmologists. The programme aims to eliminate or reduce visual impairments in patients diagnosed with refractive disorders and to adjust these devices for patients.

  • Comprehending anatomy and physiology of the human eye

  • Recognising and using optical devices
  • Choosing and assembling eyeglass frames and lenses according to prescription data The programme also covers modern management and organisational knowledge, such as:

    • Managing the workflow of a business Additionally, the programme includes general knowledge of:

    • Quality management systems and standards
    • Use of information technologies
