The English Language and Literature Master's Program, which has been in operation since 2003 under the Graduate Education Institute, hosts specialist academic staff in its field and offers courses equivalent to those offered by prestigious universities in the West.

Admission and Registration Requirements

To apply for the master's program, candidates must have a bachelor's degree from related fields such as English Language and Literature, English Translation and Interpreting, English Language Teaching, etc. Candidates must have at least 55 standard points from the ALES exam conducted by ÖSYM, in the score type of the program they are applying for.

It is mandatory to have at least 55 points or equivalent from the foreign language exams recognized by the Higher Education Council or the equivalent points from the international foreign language exams recognized by ÖSYM.

The admission evaluation for the thesis master's program is based on the ranking formed by adding 50% of the ALES score, 30% of the foreign language score, and 20% of the undergraduate GPA, starting from the top rank, up to the program quota.

Recognition of Prior Learning

In accordance with Istanbul Beykent University Graduate Education and Teaching Regulations, Article 10, students can be admitted to the programs affiliated with the Institutes with lateral transfer, provided that they meet the lateral transfer conditions determined by the Institute. The request of the student to recognize the courses they have taken from another university's graduate program is evaluated by the department head's opinion and the decision of the Institute Administrative Board, based on the course content and transcript.

Qualification Requirements and Rules

• Thesis: 2 years (maximum 6 semesters), 1 year with 2 semesters, each semester with 15 weeks, totaling 120 AKTS.
• Students must succeed in 8 courses (21 credits, 60 AKTS) and a master's thesis (60 AKTS).

Program Profile

The English Language and Literature Master's Program aims to deeply inform students about various periods of English Literature, Literary Genres, Literary Criticism and Theory, major English/American writers, World Literatures, Film Studies, and Research Methods. The program is open to all candidates who have completed their undergraduate degrees in English Language and Literature or related departments and have proficiency in the English language.

The courses in the program are conducted through classroom education and seminars. When necessary, distance education opportunities are available without interrupting education. Course evaluations are made through research papers, presentations, and written exams.

The program consists of 8 core courses related to Research Methods, Drama, Literary Theory, Gender Studies, and Film Studies over two semesters. Before starting their thesis, students are required to take and pass the English Literature Master's Seminar course. Students who complete their course load within 6 semesters and submit their original thesis defend their thesis in front of a jury consisting of two internal and one external member and are awarded a Master's Degree in English Language and Literature if they successfully complete their defense.

Transition to Higher Degree Programs
