Program Overview

Massage Therapy is a flexible career that offers flexibility in terms of work hours, independence, and choice of practice locations and types. With this certificate, individuals can work full-time or part-time at many establishments, such as private practices, spas, chiropractic offices, and more. The majority of massage therapists own their own business.

Job Placement Opportunities

Massage therapists have huge job placement opportunities. The demand for massages continues to increase, and employers continue to look for more and more massage therapists.

Faculty and Instruction

The program director has been working in this field for over 30 years and continues to teach and maintain a private practice. The program has two adjunct faculty members who also have years of experience each and continue to practice in their offices. Each faculty member brings a unique perspective and background to share with students in the classroom.

Program Options

The Massage Therapy program is housed at the Lake Land College Kluthe Center for Higher Education and Technology in Effingham, Illinois. Classes begin each fall semester and run for 4 consecutive semesters. Once admitted to the program, students must progress through the courses corresponding to the curriculum model. A "C" grade is required in all Massage Therapy curriculum courses for progress/completion. Upon completion of the course, students will receive a certificate and will be eligible to sit for the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx).

Admission Requirements

Massage Therapy application requirements include:

• Admission to Lake Land College
• Completion of the Massage Therapy program application form
• Completion of the college placement assessment tests To be considered a candidate, students must have an application file completed by July 1 for consideration for the fall semester.

Additional Costs

In addition to tuition and fees, costs for the Massage Therapy program include:

• Workbooks
• Massage supplies
• Table
• Clinical attire
• Board exam/license fee

Program Structure

The program is designed to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become a licensed massage therapist. The curriculum includes a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training.
