General Accounting B.S. Overview
The General Accounting major is designed for individuals who currently work or plan to work in accounting or taxation with for-profit organizations, non-profit organizations, or federal, state, or local governments. This program enables students to sit for the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Examination, although additional coursework may be required to meet the necessary CPA Examination requirements.
Career Opportunities
Accountants may find employment in public accounting firms, corporations, non-profits, governments, or private practices.

The Bachelor of Science in General Accounting requires 120 credits, consisting of:
- General Liberal Arts and Sciences: 60 credits
- Business Core: 27 credits
- General Accounting: 21 credits
- Open Electives: 12 credits

Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the program, students should be able to:

- Recognize and evaluate ethical issues in business and accounting
- Use accounting tools and integrate business and accounting information to make strategic economic and managerial decisions
- Communicate accounting information effectively through oral, written, and presentation skills
- Demonstrate knowledge of core financial accounting concepts and their application to business
- Demonstrate knowledge of core computer information systems concepts and their application to accounting and business
- Demonstrate knowledge of tax practice and techniques and the business implications of taxes

General Accounting Program
The General Accounting program is offered at the Bronx and Westchester campuses. The program requires 120 credits and can be completed in four years by full-time students. Classes are offered during the day and evening, with some classes available on weekends. Faculty are available for academic advising to help students with course selection, sequencing, and career opportunities. Specializations within the General Accounting degree program are available but not required, allowing students to focus on areas such as Financial Accounting, Taxation, or Computer & Information Systems.
