About Program
Program Overview
Introduction to the Mercy University Global Honors Program
The Mercy University Global Honors Program is a scholarly community of highly motivated full-time undergraduate students and dedicated faculty who seek a more challenging and self-directed intellectual environment. This program invites students from all majors to submit an application for consideration.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Global Honors Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a full-time undergraduate student registered for a majority of their classes at an on-campus location.
- Incoming freshmen must have a minimum cumulative High School GPA of 86%.
- Transfer students applying to the program after completion of credits at another undergraduate institution must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 and must be transferring between 12-75 credits towards their Mercy University degree completion.
- Current Mercy University students must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 and completed fewer than 75 credits towards their degree. These students must also submit one letter of recommendation from a Mercy University faculty or staff member.
Application Process
The application process for the Global Honors Program involves submitting a supplemental application, which includes:
- Personal details such as name, email address, and permanent mailing address.
- Selection of the semester for which the student is applying.
- Indication of student status (Incoming Freshman, Incoming Transfer, Incoming International Student, Current Mercy Student).
- Selection of the campus at which the student plans to take most of their courses (Westchester, Manhattan, Bronx).
- Note that most Global Honors courses are taught in person at the Westchester campus, so fully online students are ineligible for the program.
- Students must also provide their College Wide Identification Number (CWID) if applicable.
Essay Questions
As part of the application, students must answer two essay questions:
- In less than 500 words, describe your motivation for applying to the Mercy University Global Honors Program. What do you expect to gain from being an honors student? What unique talents, experiences, or qualities do you have to offer the Global Honors community?
- In less than 500 words, describe how an encounter with another culture changed the way you look at the world. This could include traveling abroad, interacting with someone of a different nationality, race, or religion, or visiting a museum, place of worship, or cultural center.
