Program Overview
High School Preparation Course
The High School Preparation (HSP) Course is designed for international students who wish to enter a public or private high school in Australia. This intensive course is essential for students who want to successfully enter a high school without taking a further official English test.
Course Details
- The course is available to students who want to enter Year 7 to Year 12 in Australian secondary schools.
- Students may commence the course on any Monday.
- The course is also available during local school holidays.
English Pathway Program
AICOL offers an English Pathway Program (EPP) to Queensland State High Schools and many good local Private High Schools. This program allows students to achieve direct entry into the agreed high school.
Queensland State Terms
The Queensland State school terms are as follows:
- Term 1: Tuesday 27 January to Thursday 2 April (10 weeks) for 2026, and Wednesday 27 January to Thursday 25 March (9 weeks) for 2027
- Term 2: Monday 20 April to Friday 26 June (10 weeks) for 2026, and Monday 12 April to Friday 25 June (11 weeks) for 2027
- Term 3: Monday 13 July to Friday 18 September (10 weeks) for 2026, and Monday 12 July to Friday 17 September (10 weeks) for 2027
- Term 4: Tuesday 6 October to Friday 11 December (10 weeks) for 2026, and Tuesday 5 October to Friday 10 December (10 weeks) for 2027
Entry Requirements
- The entry age limit is 12-16 years (minimum age 11 years).
- The entry requirement is pre-intermediate to Intermediate English based on the AICOL entrance test.
- Students can join a General English class until the required level is reached.
Class Details
- The average class size is 8-12 students, with a maximum of 15 students.
- The course includes 25 hours of face-to-face core class-time learning per week.

- Students can start the course at any time throughout the year.
- Highly qualified and experienced teachers help students move from one level to the next as soon as they are ready.
- The course includes small classes with individual attention, interested and varied learning materials, and regular reports sent to the local school, parent, or agent.
- The course also includes free guardianship (conditions apply) and the option to join a lower-level General English or Young Learner Primary School Class to prepare for the HSP English level entry requirement.
Study Abroad Program
AICOL also offers a Study Abroad Program, which allows students to have a short high school study experience in Australia for 1 term (3 months) up to 4 terms (12 months). This program allows students to make great Aussie friends for life at their high school and through their homestay family.

- Kings Christian College
- St Hilda's School
- The Southport School Students must meet the entry requirements of the individual school.
Queensland School System
The Queensland School System begins at Prep (4 to 5 years of age) and concludes at Year 12 (average age 17 years old). The system includes:
- 7 years of Primary School (Prep – Year 6)
- 6 years of High School (Years 7 – 12)
Post-Secondary Education Options
Upon completion of Year 12, Queensland students have numerous options to continue their study, including:
- University
- Institute of Technical and Further Education (TAFE)
- Private vocational college
