Program Overview

The Diploma of Health Sciences in Pharmacy is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of community-based healthcare and support. This program focuses on the development, testing, manufacture, and distribution of medicines, as well as the monitoring of drug therapy.

Program Structure

• The program is divided into two stages:
  • Stage 1: 2-3 trimesters (8-12 months)
  • Stage 2: 2 semesters (12 months)
• Intake dates for Stage 1 are in February and June, while Stage 2 intake is in February.

Campus Location

The program is offered at the Curtin Bentley campus.

Fees

• Domestic fees: Course fees are available, with FEE-HELP options.
• International fees: Course fees are available, with additional costs applicable depending on the course and stream.

Course Overview

The Bachelor of Pharmacy offers practical experience and a strong theoretical grounding in the discipline of pharmacy. In addition to providing community-based healthcare, this degree allows students to exercise business management skills in a professional setting.

Unit Descriptions

Foundations of Pharmaceutical Sciences

This unit provides students with an introduction to the core concepts in pharmaceutical sciences, delivered across three modules with theoretical and practical components.

Foundations of Biostatistics and Epidemiology

Students critically appraise public health and clinical epidemiological research literature and perform basic statistical analysis.

Introduction to Pathophysiology

This unit introduces students to the pathophysiological basis of common chronic diseases involving various systems, using a case-based learning approach.

Pharmaceutical Chemistry

This unit provides an introduction to core concepts within pharmaceutical chemistry, including laboratory techniques used for drug analysis and physio-chemical drug properties.

Leading to Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours)

Upon completion of the Curtin College Diploma, students will receive 175 credits towards the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) and will need to complete an additional unit at Curtin University before admission into the second year of the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours).
