BTEC Business Program

The BTEC Business program is a work-related qualification designed to accommodate the needs of employers and allow progression to university. This program encourages students to develop a range of important skills that are transferable to any walk of life.

What is BTEC Business at DLD?

At DLD, BTEC Business is taught through individual and group presentations by students, as well as class notes and assignments. Video materials and news articles are used as the basis of discussion, with an emphasis on the practical application of theory. Students are encouraged to challenge the content of what they read and offer their opinions.

Assessment

The program includes both mandatory and optional units, assessed through a combination of internal and external methods. Mandatory units include:

Entry Requirements

To enroll in the BTEC Business program, students need a minimum GCSE English grade C. Ideally, students should have GCSE English and Maths or equivalent. Candidates should possess good time management and organizational skills, as they will complete assignments after each unit with set deadlines.

After DLD

The BTEC qualification prepares students not only for university but also for the workplace, developing skills necessary for success in business. Alongside A levels, BTEC Nationals are the most widely recognized qualification for admission to higher education. In 2015, 95% of UK universities and colleges accepted students with BTEC qualifications, including competitive universities from the Russell Group.

Entry Requirements for International Students

To study BTEC, international students' current or pending exam results should be equivalent to or higher than GCSE in at least 5 subjects, with a minimum level of English equivalent to IELTS 5.0. Students without a pass at grade C in GCSE or IGCSE English Language or with an Academic English score below 6.5 overall must join an Academic English training course for the duration of the academic year, timetabled alongside BTEC lessons. If the level of English is not sufficient to meet the entry criteria for the BTEC program, students will normally be offered a place on the Abbey DLD Colleges One Year Pre-sessional (Pre-BTEC) to bring their English skills up to the required level.
