The Couture Embellishment Program is a two-week intensive course that delves into the fundamentals of fabric manipulation and couture embellishment in fashion. Utilizing traditional haute couture methods, this course fosters innovative ideas and helps showcase a unique style.
Course Details
Each module covers pleats and tucks, layering, and texture using delicate fabrics and specialty beads and sequins from France. Depending on experience, students will apply these techniques to a pre-made garment of choice, ranging from a jacket, dress, top, or a skirt.
Learning Objectives & Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
- Skillfully work with high-quality materials and specialized equipment used in haute couture fashion
- Develop skills in hand sewing and fine beadwork using a tambour hook and beading needle on a slate frame
- Master the art of combining delicate fabrics with crystals, beads, sequins, and chenille to create cohesive designs with texture and dimension
- Learn to apply specialty sequins with raffia on tulle to create floral designs
- Create 3 couture embellishments
- Create an embellished chiffon shrug
- Create a beaded collar to apply to a personal jacket

Students' progress and proficiency will be evaluated through a combination of practical assessments and creative projects.
Completion Requirements
- The program will use a grade scale to determine each student's grade through their work
- Students must receive a complete or incomplete
- In order to pass, students may not miss more than 1 session

- Depending on the final application to the garment, the teacher can purchase additional supplies
- Specialist equipment will be available to use for the course free of charge, including a slate frame and tambour hook for couture beading, with the option to purchase afterward.
