The Product Development and Manufacturing Program at The Cut Design Academy offers students a unique opportunity to learn about the business of product development and apparel manufacturing directly from leading industry experts. This hands-on program allows students to explore the process of product development from concept to completion and gain global business skills to further their success in the industry.

Build Your Industry Skills with Our Comprehensive Curriculum

The program's comprehensive curriculum allows students to explore key industry techniques and refine their skills in a final project presented to peers and instructors. Students will have the opportunity to showcase four manufactured garments, with two made locally and the other two internationally. The curriculum includes:


  • Building a Technical Specification Package: using software to produce industry-standard technical documents and understanding how to prepare tech specification packages
  • Construction: identifying construction details in a spec sheet and preparing a production plan/calendar
  • Textile Science: knitting and weaving fundamentals as well as fabric preparation/finishing
  • Sourcing: how to confirm material sourcing and understanding flow charts that run between PD, Sourcing Managers, and Design
  • Prototype Building: how to problem-solve in manufacturing and working with production to uphold quality standards
  • Production & Planning: preparing costing, estimating yields
