Overview of University Programs
The university offers a range of programs designed to prepare students for entry to university-level programs in various fields.
Foundation Program
The Foundation Program (UTP Stage I) at Toronto Metropolitan University International College (TMUIC) is designed to prepare students for entry to university-level programs in Arts, Commerce, Creative Industries, Engineering, Economics and Finance, and Science.
Duration
- The program duration is 2 terms.
Intakes
- The program has intakes in January, May, and September.
Location
- The program is located at the Toronto Metropolitan University campus in Toronto.
Program Structure
Depending on their goals for university, students will need to complete 8 courses and achieve a minimum standing as specified for each pathway to progress to International Year One (UTP Stage II).

70% Jump Rule
Students may be eligible to "Jump" to International Year One (UTP Stage II) if in a single term they successfully complete four Foundation (UTP Stage I) classes (not including ILS/ILC) with a minimum 70% in each course.
International Year One (UTP Stage II)
Upon successful completion of the Foundation (UTP Stage I) program, students will be eligible to progress to the following International Year One (UTP Stage II) programs provided they meet the minimum average in their core courses:
- Arts (BA) 60% average
- Commerce (BComm) 65% average
- Creative Industries (BA) 65% average
- Engineering (BEng) 65% average
- Economics and Finance (BA) 65% average
- Science (BSc) 65% average
Program Progression
The progression of programs is as follows:
- High school
- Foundation (UTP Stage I)
- International Year One (UTP Stage II)
Additional Requirements
- All direct and integrated entry students are required to take (and pass) ILC101– Introduction to our Learning Community in their first term of study unless exempted.
- Students who are exempt from ILC101 will be required to take (and pass) ILS101 – Integrated Learning Skills.
