International Year One (UTP Stage II): Commerce

The International Year One (UTP Stage II): Commerce program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in business and commerce. Upon successful completion of the program, students will progress into the second year of their degree at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), where they will have access to industry experts, an optional co-op program, case competitions, and networking events.

Your Direct Pathway Into Toronto Metropolitan University

The International Year One (UTP Stage II): Commerce program provides a direct pathway into the second year of a Bachelor of Commerce degree at TMU. Students will have the opportunity to select from a range of innovative majors, including:

Each major is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the subject area and to prepare them for a successful career in their chosen field.


Economics and Management Science Major

This major focuses on economic analysis and quantitative skills, which are in high demand in today's fast-paced global economy.


Entrepreneurship and Innovation Major

This major is one of Canada's leading entrepreneurship programs, with a large dedicated faculty and a wide range of undergraduate entrepreneurship courses.


Global Management Studies Major

This major provides students with the managerial skills and cultural understanding required to function effectively in the new global business environment.


Hospitality and Tourism Management Major

This major combines experiential learning, including an optional co-op, with industry-related research and one-on-one career support.


Human Resources Management Major

This major focuses on managing a diverse workforce, recruiting employees strategically, retaining good personnel, and training and developing employees.


Law and Business Major

This major offers the strongest integration of law and business among all Bachelor of Commerce programs in Canada.


Marketing Management Major

This major provides students with the skills and knowledge required to interpret and respond to customer needs in a competitive market.


Retail Management Major

This major is Canada's first Retail Management BComm, specializing in traditional and digital retail functions.


Real Estate Management Major

This major provides students with the skills and knowledge required to flourish in the housing and commercial property arenas.


Future Prospects

Upon completion of the program, students will have a wide range of career opportunities, including creating or directing businesses, managing teams, achieving objectives, and increasing profits. Students will also have the opportunity to pursue graduate studies in a range of disciplines, including a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or a Master of Science in Management (MScM).

Upon successful completion of the International Year One (UTP Stage II): Commerce program, including achieving a 2.67 CGPA for Hospitality and Tourism Management or Retail Management majors, or 2.8 CGPA for the rest of the majors, students will progress into the Bachelor of Commerce program at TMU's Ted Rogers School of Management with a minimum of 10.0 credits.
