Program Overview

Business and Management of Entertainment

The Business and Management of Entertainment Certificate program is designed for aspiring mainstream Hollywood executives, as well as those interested in the world of independent filmmaking. Students gain an understanding of industry business practices by taking foundation courses pre-production, production, and post-production as well as courses covering business and legal affairs, finance and accounting, and marketing and distribution.

Program Details

• GPA Requirement: minimum 3.0 for certificate completion

International Students

This certificate is approved for international students to study full-time in the U.S. on an F-1 visa. International students must meet English language proficiency requirements for admission into the program.

Required Courses

1. The Business of Entertainment (MGMT X 403.31) - An introductory course examining the changing business issues associated with the entertainment industry.
2. Pre-Production and Production for Film and Television (FILM TV X 404) - A survey course presenting an overview of the real-world aspects of producing.
3. Post-Production for Film and Television (FILM TV X 404A) - A course examining the post-production process for film and television.
4. Legal Primer for the Entertainment Business (MGMT X 403.01) - A course exploring key legal principles and contractual relationships within film and television.
5. Entertainment Financing: From First $ to Distribution of Profits (MGMT X 403.34) - A course covering the financial aspects of each step of the motion picture value chain.
6. Marketing Entertainment: Strategies for the Global Marketplace (MGMT X 476.99) - A course teaching global strategies and platforms necessary to successfully profit from a film.
