COVID-19 Virtual Training Academy: Case Investigation & Contact Tracing

The COVID-19 Virtual Training Academy is a program designed to rapidly and effectively train a large, new, competent workforce to implement the State's COVID-19 Community Contact Tracing Program.

About the Course

The course, PUB HLT 811, teaches basic concepts of COVID-19 epidemiology, specifically as they relate to the duties of a contact tracer and case investigator. Students gain hands-on experience reading standardized contact tracing interview and case investigation scripts with feedback from instructors and peers.

Course Details

• The course is held over 4 days, from Tuesday to Friday.
• UCLA Extension is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 11952, to provide 18 contact hours for this activity.
• The goal of the course is to train students to implement the State's COVID-19 Community Contact Tracing Program.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, learners should be able to:

• Respond to frequently asked questions about basic COVID-19 epidemiology that are likely to be encountered during contact tracing and case investigation interviews.
• Effectively communicate standardized recommendations and policies about isolation, quarantine, testing, and social support.
• Confidently read standardized contact tracing and case investigation interview scripts.

• The course is restricted to individuals admitted to the CA-COVID-19 Virtual Training Academy.
• Learners will be introduced to crucial health coaching skills and motivational interviewing techniques that can be applied during interviews to ensure information is effectively communicated.
