German and Norwegian BA

The German and Norwegian BA program at University College London (UCL) offers students the opportunity to gain excellent linguistic competence in German while deepening their knowledge of Germanic literature, history, and film. The program also provides valuable Norwegian language skills, surrounded by the array of relevant cultural resources in London.

Program Overview

The program is a four-year, full-time course that includes a year abroad, where students can immerse themselves in the cultures and societies of both languages. The course is designed to equip students with the skills to thrive in today's global society, with a focus on language acquisition, cultural literacy, and critical thinking.

Entry Requirements

• A levels: ABB, with an A level or equivalent in a foreign language required (not necessarily one of the named languages).
• IB Diploma: 34 points, with a total of 16 points in three higher-level subjects, including a foreign language.
• GCSEs: English Language at grade B or 6 and Mathematics at grade C or 4.
• Contextual offer: BBC, with a total of 15 points in three higher-level subjects, including a foreign language.

• UK students: Ł9,790 (2026/27)
• International students: Ł32,000 (2026/27)

Program Structure

Assessment

Modules are assessed by a mixture of written examinations, essays, and other forms of coursework. Language modules will also include an oral examination. Some group work may be assessed. In the final year, students may have the option to undertake a research essay on a topic chosen by them with guidance from their tutor.
