Program Overview
Mathematics and Physics BSc
The Mathematics and Physics BSc program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of both mathematics and physics. This program combines the study of mathematics and physics on an equal basis, with each subject reinforcing the other.
Program Overview
Mathematics and physics are inextricably linked, and a strong grounding in both pure and applied mathematics is necessary to understand the basic concepts of physics, such as elementary particle theory. This program is offered as a three-year BSc or a four-year MSci degree, with the first two years of the program being identical.

Teaching and Learning
Teaching is mainly carried out through lectures and tutorials. In lectures, students focus on learning important theory and techniques for the course, which are reinforced by expert-led tutorials where ideas are expounded upon with exercises designed to encourage thought and discussion amongst peers.
Modules
The program includes a range of compulsory and optional modules, with the first two years being almost all compulsory, studying the core ideas of modern mathematics and theoretical physics, and including an introduction to coding.
Assessment
Most modules are assessed by written examinations in the third term, with a small element of coursework assessment.
Employability
A mathematics degree is highly valued by employers due to the skills in logical thinking, analysis, problem-solving, and numeracy that it develops. The knowledge and skills gained on the program can be used in fields including forecasting, risk analysis, and trading; financial services, such as accountancy, banking, and insurance; and scientific research, information technology, and industry.
