Description

This module explores leadership as a dynamic, developmental, and communicative practice within complex organisational environments. It introduces core leadership concepts, theories, and evidence-based frameworks, while placing strong emphasis on how leaders communicate, influence others, and mobilise people around ideas, change, and innovation.

A central premise of the module is that effective leadership is not static or purely positional, but develops over time through self-awareness, reflection, and deliberate practice. Students are encouraged to critically examine their own leadership assumptions, behaviours, and communication styles, and to consider how these shape collaboration, creativity, decision-making, and performance.

Through a combination of interactive lectures, facilitated discussion, applied exercises, and case-based analysis, students develop practical leadership capabilities. These include communicating with clarity and credibility, adapting leadership approaches across diverse contexts and stakeholders, and translating theory into effective leadership action. The module equips students with the foundations to lead ethically, inclusively, and effectively in environments characterised by change, complexity, and uncertainty.
