• UCL Pre-Master's and Pre-sessional English courses are available for international students aiming to study for a postgraduate degree at UCL.

Teaching and Learning

Modules are taught online through a virtual learning environment, with 'Keep In Touch' activities spread over 10 weeks. The program team uses distance and online learning strategies, including self-study, engagement with texts, readings, online forums, and links to videos and other resources.

Modules

• The Graduate Diploma structure consists of 4 modules (all optional).
• The flexible/modular option allows participants to structure study to suit their needs, with up to 5 years to complete the diploma.
• Optional modules include Independent Study, Developing Mentoring Practices, Supporting Learners and Learning, Action Research, and Teacher as Author: Curriculum Design and Development.

Fieldwork and Placement

Participants are expected to be working in educational settings or have access to these settings as volunteers. Some modules require carrying out an inquiry or project in the educational setting, but placements are not arranged by the program team.

• UK tuition fees for 2026/27 are ｣9,500 for full-time study.

• The program is also available on a modular (flexible) basis, with part-time fees applying each year for two years.
• Additional costs include having access to an appropriate device with good internet access, and potential costs for a DBS check for research in a UK school.

Applications are accepted from October to August for the September entry. There is an application processing fee, and applicants are required to submit a personal statement outlining their reasons for applying and how their background meets the program's demands. Normally, applicants are working in educational settings, and the program requires one academic reference in support of the application.
