Introduction to Advanced Physiotherapy: Neurophysiotherapy MSc
The Advanced Physiotherapy: Neurophysiotherapy MSc is a flexible, well-established Master's degree that explores the clinical, academic, and research components of evidence-based neurophysiotherapy practice. This program is designed for World Physiotherapy recognized qualified physiotherapists with at least two years of neurological clinical experience.
Entry Requirements
- Normally, a minimum of an upper second-class UK Bachelor's degree or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard in Physiotherapy.
- An approved Diploma in Physiotherapy together with evidence of appropriate clinical and/or teaching experience and a commitment to continuing professional development.
- At least two years post-qualification clinical experience and UK state-registration is preferred.
Course Overview
This MSc gives students the chance to work alongside UCL and external experts to extend their knowledge of the key practical and theoretical aspects of neurophysiotherapy. Students will challenge the foundations of established treatments, carry out their own research, and learn about new and emerging ways to treat patients.
Modules
The program includes a set of compulsory modules focused on the Neurophysiotherapy pathway, such as:
- Physiotherapy Research and Dissemination
- Motor Control in Life, Health and Disease
- Neurophysiotherapy: Evidence for Rehabilitation and Practice
- Applied Statistics for Healthcare Research
Students must also choose three optional modules to complement their specialty, including options like:
- Clinical Education in Advanced Physiotherapy, Part 2
- Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy Skills
- Health Management and Clinical Exercise for Pulmonary Disease
- Physical Activity and Clinical Exercise in Cardiovascular Disease
- Paediatric Neuro-Physiotherapy

Teaching and Learning
The program is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, tutorials, online learning, and self-directed learning. Assessment is through written assignments, online assignments, oral presentations, and vivas, among other methods. Most modules are delivered as blocks of study, normally over six consecutive days.

- Additional costs may include travel to placement sites, accommodation, uniform costs, and occupational health checks.

Placement
There is a compulsory three-week placement (105 hours of contact time) and an optional second placement, part of the Clinical Education in Advanced Physiotherapy modules.
