Introduction to the Education, Health Promotion and International Development MA

The Education, Health Promotion and International Development MA is a unique program that allows students to deepen their understanding of theories and practices for promoting education, health, and wellbeing in low- and middle-income countries. This program is grounded in the values of equity, empowerment, participation, social justice, and sustainability.

Program Overview

The program is taught by experts in the field and can be taken on campus, online, or in a blended format. It is designed for students who want to develop new ways of analyzing, evaluating, and generating knowledge in educational contexts to advance health and wellbeing.

Entry Requirements

The minimum requirement for entry to this program is a second-class Bachelor's degree from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard. Applicants are expected to have relevant academic backgrounds, normally in social science, education, or nursing, and/or substantial relevant experience.

English Language Requirements

The English language level for this course is Level 2. UCL Pre-Master's and Pre-sessional English courses are available for international students who need to improve their academic English and academic skills.

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees for the program are as follows:

• UK students: ｣14,200 (full-time), ｣7,100 (part-time)
• International students: ｣32,000 (full-time), ｣16,000 (part-time)

Duration and Study Mode

The program can be taken full-time, part-time, or on a flexible basis. The duration of the program varies depending on the study mode:

• Full-time: 1 calendar year
• Part-time: 2 calendar years
• Flexible: 2-5 calendar years

The program consists of two compulsory taught modules, a compulsory research/dissertation module, and two optional taught modules. The compulsory modules are:

Fieldwork and Placement

Fieldwork is not a compulsory part of the program, but students are encouraged to draw from their professional or voluntary experience to write critically and cogently for different audiences. Placements are not routinely part of the program, but students can take part in UCL Volunteering Services or UCL ChangeMakers to gain valuable international development-related experience.

Location

The program is based in the Department of Education, Practice and Society, which has specialists from a wide variety of disciplines who undertake research to support education throughout the life course.

Fees and Funding

The tuition fees shown are for the year indicated above. Fees for subsequent years may increase or otherwise vary. There are various scholarships available for students, including the GREAT Scholarship, IOE-Clarke Scholarships, and IOE-ISH Centenary Masters Scholarships.
