Introduction to the General Pharmacy Practice PG Dip

The Postgraduate Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice (PG Dip GPP) is designed to provide foundation training for registered pharmacists employed in NHS Hospital Trusts and private hospitals. The program aims to equip pharmacists with the core knowledge, skills, and capabilities required to deliver safe and effective pharmaceutical care to patients.

Program Overview

The PG Dip GPP is a part-time, modular, and flexible course with a registration period of up to five years. The program can be completed in two or three years, and it supports a broad approach to practice, enabling pharmacists to manage issues related to the safe and effective provision of medicines.

Curriculum

The curriculum is divided into two foundation stages. In Foundation Stage 1, students take one compulsory module, "Foundations of General Pharmacy Practice," which provides a broad range of knowledge and skills essential for safe and effective clinical pharmacy practice. In Foundation Stage 2, students build on their learning through four compulsory modules:

• Therapeutic Review module
• Audit or Service Evaluation module
• Portfolio
• Quality Improvement module

Teaching and Learning

Learning is conducted using a combination of workplace-based assessments and a program of study days. Assessment methods address knowledge, competence, and performance, including MCQ and OSCE exams, workplace-based assessments, and complex service-driven tasks.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must hold an MPharm degree (480 credits) and be GPhC post-registered pharmacists employed by one of the accredited training centers.

English Language Requirements

The English language level for this course is Level 2. UCL Pre-Master's and Pre-sessional English courses are available for international students who need to improve their academic English and academic skills.

Fees and Funding

• UK tuition fees (2026/27): Module 1 (60 credits) is Ł1,350, and modules 2, 3, 4, and 5 (15 credits each) are Ł337.50 each.
• Overseas tuition fees (2026/27): Module 1 (60 credits) is Ł1,350, and modules 2, 3, 4, and 5 (15 credits each) are Ł337.50 each.
• The APL Mapping fee for those on a Diploma at a JPB partner University is Ł100 (in addition to the fees for Foundation Stage 2).

Employability

Graduates typically progress to highly skilled work within the healthcare sector, with employers including NHS Trusts and Foundation Trusts, Astra Zeneca plc, Pfizer, and Roche Pharmaceuticals.
