Introduction to the Orthodontics (Advanced Training) MClinDent Program
The Orthodontics (Advanced Training) MClinDent program is a full-time, three-year master's program designed for international students who are not eligible to apply for orthodontic training via the Health Education England (HEE)/NHS England national recruitment process. This program is offered by the University College London (UCL) and is based at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute, one of the largest dental postgraduate training centers in Europe.

Entry Requirements

Tuition Fees
The tuition fees for the program are as follows:

Additional Costs
- A fee deposit of 2.5% of the first year's fee for UK students and 10% for international students.
- Students will need to purchase their own computer and clinical camera.
- A completed DBS check is required for some compulsory modules, with the cost of the DBS check itself paid for by UCL.
Program Structure
The program consists of ten compulsory taught modules and a research dissertation, totaling 360 credits. Modules are studied concurrently over the length of the program, and time allocated to each module is not defined by academic terms.

Teaching and Learning
The program is based on the UK General Dental Council Orthodontics Specialty Training curriculum and is delivered through lectures, practical and skills teaching, clinical and academic seminars, self-directed learning, and supervised clinical treatment of patients. Assessment methods include written, clinical, and skills-based formats, as well as a dissertation based on the student's own research.
Clinical Experience
- Students will attend the Eastman Dental Institute or Eastman Dental Hospital every day (Monday to Friday).
- An average week includes a personal treatment session each day, totaling around 20 hours per week, where students treat their own patients under senior staff supervision.
- Students will also attend regular new patient diagnostic clinics.
Career Prospects
The program aims to develop the academic, clinical, and technical skills needed to practice orthodontics and undertake further research. According to the HESA Graduate Outcomes survey, around 92% of Orthodontics graduates went on to highly skilled work, both in the UK and overseas, or undertook further postgraduate study, including PhDs.
