Introduction to Research Methods for Archaeology MA

The Research Methods for Archaeology MA is a year-long program offered by the University College London (UCL) Institute of Archaeology. This program is ideal for students who wish to pursue advanced independent research and is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to theoretical issues in modern archaeology.

Program Overview

The program is aimed at students who have already chosen a research topic but need to acquire research skills before embarking on a higher degree. Students will develop critically aware perspectives on archaeological practice and research processes, as well as gain an in-depth understanding of approaches to data collection, analysis, and interpretation.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for the program, applicants must have a minimum of an upper second-class Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard. English language requirements also apply, with a minimum level of 2 required.

Course Structure

The program is offered on a full-time and part-time basis. Full-time students will undertake two compulsory theory modules and any additional modules needed to gain relevant skills for their project. Part-time students will discuss their pathway through the degree with the degree coordinator and typically take the compulsory core modules in the first year and select their optional modules in the second year.

The tuition fees for the program are:

The UCL Institute of Archaeology offers one studentship of ｣10,000 to support a graduate student who is an ordinarily resident in the UK or Ireland and eligible to pay the home fee rate.
