Description
Everything is designed. In a business or public organisation, the products and services it offers, the brand, the organisational communications, the way it organizes its activities, its vision and strategy all of this needs to be designed. Designed objects, services and environments are all around us and successful organisations invest in design and the management of design to create value. Design approaches can be used to understand and address key challenges facing organisations, communities and society.
This module provides students with an opportunity to explore design and design thinking as a distinctive approach to innovation and problem solving, and its applications to the development of new products and services, and the search for solutions to social issues. The module is taught partly through a hands-on exploration of design methods and approaches, and is complemented by readings, class discussions and exercises. During the module, students work in project teams to learn key techniques for design thinking in the context of a real-world problem.
