Description
This module involves a wider research project carried out at UCL, with students being assigned a project supervisor. Through their chosen project, students gain in-depth knowledge, understanding, and practical experience of their chosen research topic area. If a project requires presence in a clinical setting, students are subject to UCL occupational health checks and an enhanced DBS. Projects requiring patient contact in clinical settings cannot be undertaken without these checks.
The module entails the completion of a dissertation on an area of research compatible with the student's programme of study. This can involve collection and analysis of data or a systematic review, possibly including a meta-analysis. By the end of this module, students will have demonstrated the ability to:
- Describe, synthesise, and critique scientific literature relevant to the project.
- Formulate unique research questions with justified aims and hypotheses.
- Develop and apply appropriate research methodology to answer research questions.
- Describe methods and report results clearly.
- Appraise and discuss findings in relation to the wider literature.
- Evaluate limitations of their own work and formulate next steps.
- Demonstrate effective academic writing skills.
