Evidence Based Dental Practice (IEHC0005)

Description

This module introduces students to evidence-based dental practice, aiming to provide a thorough understanding of the principles of evidence-based practice and their implementation. It covers current concepts of dental diseases and methods of prevention. A key element is equipping students with the skills to critically appraise the scientific literature.


After completing this module, students will have developed:


  • An appreciation of the principles and implementation of evidence-based practice
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the aetiology of dental diseases and the evidence base for preventive strategies
  • The skills required to critically appraise scientific papers
  • Skills to effectively communicate research evidence to policymakers

This module is open to students registered on the MSc Dental Public Health. It involves a series of lectures in Term 3 of the academic year, with critical appraisal skills practiced during interactive seminars throughout the year, involving the discussion and appraisal of published journal articles.
