Description

The delivery of content and information online is becoming increasingly dynamic and device-driven. This module focuses on the three main pillars of web design - Usability, Accessibility, and Sustainability. It reviews the history of the internet, introduces students to the concepts of markup for web pages, website structuring and design, and the issues involved in generating, delivering, and evaluating content effectively. Topics include the design, construction, and delivery of valid online content; best practice and standards for technical, accessibility, usability, and sustainability issues; information architecture and user experience; and emerging technologies on the web.


Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module, students will:


  • have an understanding of how content can be ported across different online environments through adherence to standards
  • be able to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of website design and implementation, especially with regard to usability, accessibility, and sustainability for different audiences
  • have a practical understanding of the real-world applications of content covered in the module
