Description

The ability to effectively manage risks is critical to safeguarding an organisation, but it is even more complex in the healthcare domain. In this module, you will develop an in-depth understanding of risk management in a healthcare setting. You will assess strategies for risk management as well as frameworks for delivering risk management plans for healthcare. You will come to understand that in healthcare, risks include patient safety and medical errors, but also other risks such as operational, environmental, and financial risks.

As healthcare innovations continue at a rapid pace, you will learn how healthcare organisations assess risks that come with technological change, cybersecurity, regulatory, and legal risk. You will explore that risk can be an opportunity. Without understanding the risks, risk levels, and processes for mitigation, organisations cannot appropriately appraise opportunities and changes in rapidly evolving health systems. You will learn through interaction with a variety of risk management experts supporting the health sector to ensure a high standard of continuous risk management.

The module offers a clear understanding of the significance of health insurance, focusing on the relationship between risk and insurance, such as Pooling of losses, Payment of fortuitous losses, Risk transfer, and indemnification, which will lead to healthcare contracting and its implications on risk-sharing for capacity building.
