The aim of this module is to introduce students to the concepts of perioperative medicine, which are outside the remit of the traditional surgeon, anaesthetist, physician, and perioperative practitioner. Specifically, students will look at the global and national epidemiology of surgery and how this affects patient outcome, explore key documents looking at surgical outcome, learn about pre-operative risk assessment, and discuss shared decision making.
