Description
This lab-based scientific research project is supervised by an academic member of staff in the Department of Pharmaceutics. Students may also have the opportunity to work on industry or hospital-based projects. The project selection process begins in Term 1, where students are provided with information on available staff members and projects through "open days." In Term 2, students participate in research skills workshops to equip them with necessary lab skills. They are then asked to select their preferred supervisors, and allocations are made considering student preferences.
Each project is unique and complements the supervisor's research activities. Laboratory work is undertaken for approximately 7 weeks between May and August, with the timing agreed upon between the student and supervisor. Students are expected to develop their research ideas and experimental series in discussion with their supervisor and complete a comprehensive literature review. The results are written up and submitted as a dissertation, accompanied by an oral presentation in late August or early September.
