Introduction to Chemistry with a Year in Industry BSc (Hons)

The Chemistry with a Year in Industry BSc (Hons) program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of chemistry and its applications in industry. This four-year program combines core knowledge with the chance to specialize and includes a full year spent gaining valuable hands-on experience in industry.

Year Four (Year in Industry)

  • Students spend this year on an external/industrial placement, acquiring experience and awareness of practical chemistry in an industrial environment to further develop their commercial and professional skills.

  • A knowledge of core chemistry is fundamental to any chemistry degree.
  • Core chemistry material is delivered in a series of interactive lectures, with the interdisciplinary nature of chemistry showcased appropriately.
  • Core concepts are contextualized with publications of recent scientific research whilst encouraging students to be critical of such material, building digital fluency alongside engaging with traditional and modern digital platforms.
  • Assessment combines formative workshops and interactive lectures with summative methods, including traditional exams, group projects, professional skill development, and laboratory-based activities.
