Introduction to Civil Engineering with Year in Industry MEng (Hons)

The Civil Engineering with Year in Industry MEng (Hons) program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in civil engineering, including a year of industry experience. Entry Requirements

• A levels: AAB, including Mathematics.
• Applicants with the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) are eligible for a reduction in grade requirements.
• T levels are not currently accepted.
• GCSE: 4/C in English and 4/C in Mathematics.
• Subject requirements: For applicants from England, a "Pass" is required in the separately graded practical endorsement for science A levels.
• International Baccalaureate: 34 points overall, with no score less than 4, and including 5 in HL Mathematics.
• Irish Leaving Certificate: H1, H1, H2, H2, H2, H3, including H2 in Higher Maths.

Program Structure

• Year one: Compulsory modules include Geomechanics 1, Solids and Structures 1, Energy Science, Civil and Architectural Engineering Projects, Introduction to Engineering Materials, Engineering Mathematics for CEE, and Digital Engineering.
• Year two: Compulsory modules include Geomechanics 2, Group Design Project, Hydraulics, Structural Element Design, Environmental Planning and Infrastructure Project, Programming for Civil Engineers, Engineering Mathematics II, Structural Behaviour, and Transportation Engineering and Modelling.
• Year in industry: Students undertake a year placement with an approved company/organization.
• Year four: Compulsory modules include Geotechnical Engineering, Individual Project, Sustainable Water Engineering, Old Structures of Steel, Timber and Masonry, Sustainable Design and Construction Management, and Structural Planning.
• Year five: Compulsory modules include Materials for Durable and Sustainable Construction, Risk and Uncertainty: Probability Theory, Advanced Geomechanics, Capstone: Multidisciplinary Project, Structural Systems, Advanced Construction Management, and Structural Optimisation.

Accreditation

• The program is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) comprising the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institute of Highway Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, and the Permanent Way Institution on behalf of the Engineering Council.
• The MEng degree is accredited as fully satisfying the educational base for a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

• International fees are Ł32,000 per year, with a year in industry fee of Ł1,955 and a year abroad fee of Ł16,000.
