Introduction to Civil Engineering BEng (Hons)

The Civil Engineering BEng (Hons) program at the University of Liverpool is a comprehensive, vocational course that covers all aspects of a civil engineer's education. The program emphasizes applying learning in context and includes a substantial practical component.

Teaching and Assessment

  • The program encompasses the development of a holistic, systems approach to engineering.
  • Technical knowledge and skills are complemented by a sound appreciation of the life-cycle processes involved in engineering and an awareness of the ethical, safety, environmental, economic, and social considerations involved in practicing as a professional engineer.
  • Students are taught through a combination of face-to-face teaching in group lectures, laboratory sessions, tutorials, and seminars.
  • Assessment takes many forms, each appropriate to the learning outcomes of the particular module studied, including coursework and examination.

Course Options

  • Year in China: Immerse yourself in Chinese culture on an optional additional year at Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool University in Suzhou.
  • Year Abroad: Spend an additional year of study at a partner university abroad following your second year of study.
  • Summer Abroad: Spend a summer abroad on a study placement or research project at one of the university's worldwide partner institutions.
  • Year in Industry: Year in industry placements give students an in-depth workplace experience where they can develop their skills and apply their learning.

Careers and Employability

  • The program aims to provide the educational base for graduates who demonstrate great skills in critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity.
  • Many graduates have moved on to have careers with employers such as Airbus, BMI, British Airways, Highways Agency, Jaguar Land Rover, National Nuclear Laboratory, Network Rail, Pilkington, Rolls Royce, and Siemens.

Fees and Funding

  • UK Fees: 」9,790 per year (full-time), with additional fees for year in industry and year abroad.
  • International Fees: 」32,000 per year (full-time), with additional fees for year in industry and year abroad.
  • Scholarships and bursaries are available, including the Liverpool Bursary, Asylum Seekers Scholarship, and Care Leavers' Opportunity Bursary.

Entry Requirements

  • A Levels: AAB, including Mathematics.
  • BTEC: Distinction* in a relevant BTEC, plus B in A Level Mathematics.
  • International Baccalaureate: 34 points overall, with no score less than 4, and including 5 in HL Mathematics.
  • English language requirements: IELTS 6.0 overall, with no component below 5.5, or equivalent.
