Introduction to the Foundation to Diagnostic Radiography (Year 0) Program

The Foundation to Diagnostic Radiography (Year 0) program is a year-zero foundation program designed for mature students who have typically been out of formal education for some time or who have taken non-traditional qualifications. This program leads to access onto the Diagnostic Radiography BSc program.

Program Overview

The program is specifically targeted at Home/EU mature and non-traditional students who have taken a break from studies. Students seeking entry to Diagnostic Radiography will study a foundation year (year zero) at Carmel College, St Helens, about nine miles from the university campus, where class sizes are small and the standards of academic achievement are high.

Teaching and Assessment

Learning is promoted through a wide variety of activities that enable students to become autonomous and independent continuous learners. An award-winning team-based learning approach features in many of the modules, along with interactive lectures and student-led seminars. Problem-based learning is used to cover patient-centered scenarios, and collaborative projects are often used to teach research and evidence-based practice.

Careers and Employability

As a graduate of the School of Allied Health Professions and Nursing, you'll be eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). You will have gained a qualification that meets the Government's criteria for 'fitness for purpose' and 'fitness for practice' as well as developing transferable skills such as communication, information technology, problem-solving, and teamwork. • Year abroad fee - Ł1,465 (applies to year in China)
• International fees: This course is not available to international students who require a visa to study in the UK.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally be considered ineligible for direct entry to the BSc route. Qualification details include:

• A levels: This program is designed for mature students who have typically been out of formal education for some time (2 years or above) or who have taken non-traditional qualifications.
• GCSEs: At minimum grade 5(C) to include Maths, English Language OR English Literature, Science (single, dual, or combined).
• T levels: T levels are not currently accepted.
• BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma: Students currently studying BTEC level 3 will not be considered; BTEC level 2 will not be accepted in lieu of GCSE.
• International Baccalaureate: Applicants currently studying for International Baccalaureate will not be considered.
• Irish Leaving Certificate: Applicants currently studying for Irish Leaving Certificate will not be considered.
• Scottish Higher/Advanced Higher: Applicants currently studying for Scottish Highers will not be considered.
• Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced: Applicants currently studying the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced will not be considered.
• Graduate application: Applicants with a previous degree but do not meet criteria for direct entry to the degree program will be considered if they are returning to education following a break.
• Access: Mature students who have recently studied an access course (that is not eligible for direct entry) or have work-related qualifications will be considered.
• Profession-specific knowledge and skills required: Evidence of a clinical visit is highly recommended but not compulsory.
• Declaration of criminal background: Applicants may be expected to complete either a Declaration of Criminal Background or have a full Disclosure Barring Service check as part of their application.

Additional Information

• The University of Liverpool, in collaboration with local FE partners, has developed a year-zero foundation program for Home students that leads to access onto a variety of vocational Health Studies programs.
• The program has the benefit of an on-site digital imaging suite and CT scanner to enhance clinical skills teaching, and there is access to the Human Anatomy Resource Centre, which complements students' learning.
• The Liverpool Curriculum framework sets out the University's distinctive approach to education, focusing on research-connected teaching, active learning, and authentic assessment to ensure students graduate as digitally fluent and confident global citizens.
