Program Overview
English with World Literature BA (Hons)
The English with World Literature BA (Hons) program at the University of Liverpool offers students the opportunity to enhance their study of English Literature with an understanding of literature written in different global frameworks.
Course Overview
This program is available with an optional year in industry, which provides students with in-depth workplace experience where they can develop their skills and apply their learning. The course content includes a mix of lectures, seminars, workshops, and tutorials, with no modules being taught entirely through lectures.
Year One
In the first year, students will take four compulsory modules and choose one option in each semester. The compulsory modules include:

Course Options
The program offers various course options, including:
- Global opportunities: Students can choose to spend a year at XJTLU in China or a year or semester at an institution of their choice.
- Year in industry: Students can opt for a year in industry, which provides them with in-depth workplace experience.
- Language study: Every student at the University of Liverpool can study a language as part of, or alongside their degree.
Careers and Employability
The School of the Arts has its own Placements and Employability Officer, and students will have the opportunity to undertake a semester-long work placement or a year in industry. Many graduates move on to have careers in the arts, the media, publishing, marketing, events, and project management, working for employers like the BBC, Liverpool Echo, The Guardian, and more.
Fees and Funding
The tuition fees for the program are:
- UK fees: È9,790 per year (full-time), È1,955 (year in industry), and È1,465 (year abroad)
- International fees: È27,000 per year (full-time), È1,955 (year in industry), and È13,500 (year abroad)
The university offers various scholarships and bursaries, including the Liverpool Bursary, Asylum Seekers Scholarship, and Care Leavers' Opportunity Bursary.
Entry Requirements
The entry requirements for the program include:
- A levels: ABB, including English (Language, Literature or Language and Literature) at grade A
- GCSE: 4/C in English and 4/C in Mathematics
- BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma: Applications considered
- International Baccalaureate: 32 points overall, with no score less than 4, and including 6 in Higher Level English
- English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 overall, with no component below 5.5, or equivalent qualifications.
