Program Overview
Introduction to Clinical Sciences MSc
The Clinical Sciences MSc is designed to advance students' expertise in the molecular and cellular mechanisms that underpin human health, alongside cutting-edge clinical applications. This programme offers an integrative approach that spans fundamental biomedical sciences to advanced translational research, all under the broad theme of Molecules, Cells, Tissues, and Clinical Practice.
Course Content
The programme couples in-depth taught material to gain further insight into cellular mechanisms in health and disease, with a final semester, hands-on, independent research project. The curriculum has been designed to deepen students' understanding of how biomedical research drives innovation in clinical settings with research-led approaches embedded throughout.
Modules
- BIOLOGICAL DATA SKILLS (LIFE707): 15 credits, Semester 1. Data skills are essential for a career in modern biology. This module will teach students the ability to visualize data, critically test hypotheses, and to interpret and present results.
- RESEARCH FRONTIERS IN CLINICAL SCIENCES 1 (MCMR003): 15 credits, Semester 1. This module encompasses a series of topical lectures, interactive seminars, and journal clubs focusing on recent advances and challenges in the field of Clinical Sciences.
- RESEARCH FRONTIERS IN CLINICAL SCIENCES 2 (MCMR004): 15 credits, Semester 2. This module is a series of lectures, seminars, and journal clubs focusing on recent advances and challenges in the field of clinical sciences.
- MOLECULES, CELLS, TISSUES (LCMS702): 30 credits, Semester 1. This core module offers an advanced exploration of cellular and molecular processes, combining fundamental biological techniques with cutting-edge models.
- CELLS, TISSUES, CLINIC (LCMS703): 30 credits, Semester 2. This module continues the exploration of cellular and molecular processes in the context of clinical applications.
- ILCMS RESEARCH PROJECT (LCMS701): 60 credits, Summer. This module offers an opportunity for students to spend time exploring and researching an area that they find interesting and is relevant in their field of study.
Teaching and Assessment
The programme aims to equip students with advanced knowledge, skills, and research expertise required to contribute to evidence-based practice and pursue further academic study or leadership roles in industry and academia. Assessments will mirror activities students may undertake as professional scientists or healthcare professionals, including paper reviews, writing a grant proposal, report writing, and presentations.

Entry Requirements
- Qualification Details: A 2:2 honours degree from a UK university, or an equivalent academic qualification from a similar non-UK institution, in a medical, biomedical, or relevant biological science discipline.

- English Language Requirements: IELTS 6.5 overall, with no component below 6.0, or equivalent.
