Business Management BA (Hons)

The Business Management BA (Hons) programme is a flexible course that allows students to experience a wide range of management functions and provides a thorough grounding in various business subjects.

Introduction

The course is taught by academic staff with industry experience in different business sectors. From the first year of study, students are introduced to the problems and challenges of the business world and are equipped with the knowledge to solve them. By the final year, students have the skills, business awareness, and confidence to succeed in the wider business world, with opportunities to specialize in areas such as marketing, finance, and events management.

Teaching and Assessment

Modules are taught using the latest active learning techniques, including business simulations, real-world case studies, social media, interactive participation software, lecture capture, and real-time financial and business data using the Bloomberg Trading Floor. The principal forms of teaching are lectures and seminars, with lectures normally being supported by material such as handouts and presentations. Seminars give the opportunity for detailed discussion of a topic under the direction of a tutor.

Assessment is through a combination of coursework and examinations. The exact weighting will vary from one module to another. As well as individual assignments and exams, students may also be assessed on group reports and presentations.

Studying Business Management at the Management School will not only help students understand how a business works overall, but will also develop their skills of flexibility, problem-solving ability, commercial awareness, and communication, all of which are highly valued by employers. Tuition fees for the academic year 2026/27 are:

• UK fees: Ł9,790 per year (full-time), Ł1,955 (year in industry fee), Ł1,465 (year abroad fee)
• International fees: Ł27,000 per year (full-time), Ł1,955 (year in industry fee), Ł13,500 (year abroad fee)

Scholarships and Bursaries

The University of Liverpool offers a range of scholarships and bursaries, including:

• The Liverpool Bursary: up to Ł2,000 per year for UK students with a household income below Ł35,000
• Asylum Seekers Scholarship: tuition fees paid in full and help with study costs for asylum seekers
• Care Leavers' Opportunity Bursary: Ł3,000 per year for care leavers
• Cowrie Foundation Scholarship: up to Ł8,000 per year for UK students with a Black African or Caribbean heritage and a household income of Ł25,000 or less
• Estranged Students Bursary: Ł1,000 per year for estranged students
• Genesys Life Sciences Scholarship: Ł4,500 per year for three years for students studying a School of Biosciences degree

Entry Requirements

The qualifications and exam results required for this course are:

• A levels: AAB (applicants with the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) are eligible for a reduction in grade requirements to ABB with A in the EPQ)
• T levels: Management and Administration considered (applicants should contact the university to discuss specific requirements)
• GCSE: Mathematics at grade 5/C and English at grade 4/C required
• Subject requirements: some Level 3 qualifications are only acceptable alongside 2 A levels (applicants should contact the university for details)
• BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma: DDD in a Business-related subject
• International Baccalaureate: 34 points overall with no score less than 4 or pass the IB Diploma plus 6,6,5 in 3 HL subjects
• Irish Leaving Certificate: H1,H1,H2,H2,H2,H3
• Scottish Higher/Advanced Higher: Scottish Advanced Highers at AAB
• Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced: B in the Welsh Baccalaureate, plus grades AA at A level
• Access: pass relevant Access to HE Diploma (Business/Humanities/Social Science) with 45 Level 3 credits with 36 at Distinction and 9 at Merit

English Language Requirements

Students must demonstrate competence in the use of English language, unless they are from a majority English-speaking country. The university accepts a variety of international language tests and country-specific qualifications, including:

• IELTS: 6.5 overall, with no component below 5.5
• TOEFL iBT: 88 overall, with minimum scores of listening 17, writing 17, reading 17, and speaking 19
• Duolingo English Test: 125 overall, with speaking, reading, and writing not less than 105, and listening not below 100
• Pearson PTE Academic: 61 overall, with no component below 59
• LanguageCert Academic: 70 overall, with no skill below 60
• Cambridge IGCSE First Language English 0500: Grade C overall, with a minimum of grade 2 in speaking and listening
• Cambridge IGCSE First Language English 0990: Grade 4 overall, with Merit in speaking and listening
• Cambridge IGCSE Second Language English 0510/0511: 0510: Grade B overall, with a minimum of grade 2 in speaking; 0511: Grade B overall
• Cambridge IGCSE Second Language English 0993/0991: 0993: Grade 6 overall, with a minimum of grade 2 in speaking; 0991: Grade 6 overall
• Cambridge ESOL Level 2/3 Advanced: 176 overall, with no paper below 162

Students who do not meet the minimum required standard of English language can complete one of the university's Pre-Sessional English courses to achieve the required level.
