Who is the Module For?

This module is aimed at newly qualified radiographers, or radiographers new to MRI scanning, and will provide them with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop their competence in MRI and enable them to become a valuable member of the MRI service team.

Module Details and Indicative Content

Learners will be taught to operate MRI equipment competently and safely whilst complying with, and being specifically aware of, MRI safety, legislation, and emergency procedures. They will explore different aspects of MRI physics, scan time parameters, image acquisition, and the fundamentals of scanner hardware/coil technology to ensure effective imaging. They will evaluate MRI images to learn to differentiate between normal and abnormal anatomy and pathological appearances relative to defined anatomical regions for common MRI scans. In addition, learners will perform effective, compassionate care in a non-discriminatory, culturally sensitive manner, recognising differences in patient needs when undergoing MRI examinations. Learners will also critically evaluate MRI workflows and their importance to the healthcare system.

• 2-hour MCQ / short answer exam
• A 3000-word case study
