Legal Computer Applications Course

Course Introduction

This course provides students with the basic knowledge and techniques to become productive using a computer in the Windows environment. Students learn how to use a personal computer to accomplish many tasks, such as writing a letter, analyzing numeric information, and maintaining an updated list of client information using word processing software, chart and spreadsheet software, and email.


Course Prerequisites

Introduction to Personal Computers, Introduction to the Legal System, and Legal Writing and Communications or equivalent knowledge and experience.


Course Notes

Students enrolled in this course receive text and/or other related resource materials. There is a final exam to evaluate student progress for this course. Participants who receive 70% or higher overall will receive a certificate.

  • Module 1: Legal Correspondence; Special Notations; Correspondence and Memoranda
  • Module 2: Formatting and Preparation of Commercial Legal Papers; Municipal Divisions of a Province; Guidelines for Document Preparation
  • Module 3: Court Documents; Statutory Declaration; Certificates and Release; Affidavits; Statement of Claim Preparation; Body of Statement of Claim
  • Module 4: Notices and Evidence; Material Required for Hearing
