Program Overview

The Medical Office Assistant Diploma is designed to provide employment-ready, comprehensively trained graduates. Successful graduates will be eligible to achieve the CMAP® Certified Medical Assisting Professional designation in addition to their diploma. Graduates of the program will be fully qualified to work in a hands-on administrative or clinical capacity in a medical field.

Admissions Requirements

• Clear Criminal Record Check
• Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent (or satisfactory completion of CAST testing)
• Satisfactory completion of Wonderlic SLE test
• Other medical tests (TB Test) or proof of vaccinations may be required

Comprehensive Medical Administrative Knowledge

Comprehensive medical administrative knowledge, which includes:

• Medical terminology
• Anatomy and physiology
• Pharmacology
• Medical office and clinical administrative procedures

Hospital Administrative Knowledge

In-depth hospital administrative knowledge of:

• Nursing units
• Emergency response codes
• Infection control and treatment procedures
• Understanding of mental disorders and treatments
• Workplace ethics
• Processing medication, laboratory and doctors' orders

Computer and Office Skills

Full range of computer and office skills, including:

• Current software applications
• Keyboarding skills
• Bookkeeping
• Personal and professional development

Career Opportunities

Practical Experience

On-site work experience through participation in a 160 hour Clinical Preceptorship at an approved healthcare facility.
