About Program
Program Overview
EOPS/CARE + CalWORKs & Foster Youth Program
The EOPS/CARE + CalWORKs & Foster Youth program is designed to provide support to students with little or no college experience. The program has limited space available each term, and budget permitting, new applications are accepted during the fall and spring terms.
Application Process and Eligibility Criteria
- The application process varies among students, but may take up to 2-3 weeks to complete, depending on several factors:
- Completeness of application
- Date of submission of a complete application
- Enrollment in a previous college or university
- All applicants will receive an email regarding their EOPS eligibility status.
- To ensure receipt of this notification, students must regularly check their official email account.
Program Duration and Unit Limit
- Students may stay in the EOPS program as long as they meet all term eligibility requirements and maintain good standing with the program.
- The program has a 70 unit limit, which includes cumulative units from any other college or university attended.
- Students who reach 70 degree-applicable units, transfer to another college, do not comply with program requirements, drop all units during the term, or finish the term with a 0.0 GPA will be exited from the program.
70-Unit Evaluation
- A 70-unit evaluation is an hour-long counseling appointment required for students approaching the 70-unit limit.
- The evaluation determines how many completed units are degree-applicable and may be exempt from the 70-unit limit, such as units earned in ESL or basic skills coursework.
- Some high-unit majors, such as nursing or the sciences, may also be exempt from the 70-unit limit.
Orientation and Acceptance
- Eligible students will receive an email inviting them to attend an orientation.
- Attendance at the orientation is required for official acceptance into the program.
- The email will describe the different orientation options and provide instructions on how to sign up.
